WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Accessibility commitment

Benefit Path is built for everyone — including the people who need it most. We are committed to meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA across every page of the application.

What we've built in

  • Colour contrast

All text meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements (4.5:1 normal text, 3:1 large text and UI components). A high-contrast mode is available in Settings → Accessibility.

  • Keyboard navigation

Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard. A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page when focused.

  • Screen reader support

Pages use semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and live regions so screen readers announce dynamic content updates (toasts, loading states, chat responses).

  • Text resizing

Content reflows correctly up to 200 % zoom. Four text-size presets (Small, Default, Large, Extra-large) are available in Settings → Accessibility.

  • Reduced motion

The site honours the OS-level "Reduce Motion" preference automatically. You can also toggle this manually in Settings → Accessibility.

Success criteria targeted

The following WCAG 2.1 success criteria are actively tested during development:

  • 1.1.1 Non-text content (Level A)
  • 1.3.1 Info and relationships (Level A)
  • 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum) (Level AA)
  • 1.4.4 Resize text (Level AA)
  • 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA)
  • 1.4.11 Non-text contrast (Level AA)
  • 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)
  • 2.4.1 Bypass blocks (Level A)
  • 2.4.3 Focus order (Level A)
  • 2.4.7 Focus visible (Level AA)
  • 3.1.1 Language of page (Level A)
  • 4.1.2 Name, role, value (Level A)
  • 4.1.3 Status messages (Level AA)

Built-in accessibility tools

Once you create an account, visit Settings → Accessibility to:

  • Choose from four text sizes (Small, Default, Large, Extra-large)
  • Enable high-contrast mode for sharper colour differentiation
  • Enable reduced motion to minimise animations and transitions

These preferences are saved in your browser and applied instantly — even before the page fully loads — to prevent any flash of unstyled content.

Known limitations

  • Third-party Stripe checkout pages are outside our control and may not meet every WCAG criterion.
  • PDF exports rendered by React-PDF may not be fully tagged; we recommend saving the JSON data export as an accessible alternative.
